Be the Citizens of
Jesus’ Kingdom
Introduction
-
The Kingdoms are now part of history. The
present children do not have imaginations about the kings and queens. For them
the word king may mean ‘King of boxing ring’, King of football, King Maker in
politics, Kings in different fields etc. Here ‘king’ is associated with
excellence. Therefore it is better to say “Christ the President”. But still we
use the old term – Christ the King.

Four important characteristics of Christ our
King?
o
By birth and origin Jesus is king.
§
Son of God
§
From the clan of David (kingly tribe)
o
Nobody can defeat / impeach him
§
He is at the right hand of God, the father
o
His power is never tyrannical
§
It is never imposed but merely proposed.
§
We have freedom to accept him or reject him.
o
His power is based on self-sacrificing love
§
Like parents who have power over children
because of their sacrifice for their children.
§
His sacrifice on Calvary proves his forgiving
love for us.
§
(Jn 15: 13) “There is no greater love than to
lay down one’s life for one’s friends”.
-
What is his weapon?
o
He has no military, no propaganda machine, no
police, no judiciary, and no prison.
o
His weapon is ‘truth’. (Jn 13: 37) – “the
mission of Christ is to ‘testify the truth’.
o
What is truth? To know that we have to analyze
what did Jesus testify in his life. Jesus showed through his life the nature of
God, i.e., ‘God is a loving father’.
Conclusion
-
Jesus calls us, the disciples, to be part of his
Kingdom.
o
Respect him.
§
The duty of the citizens to respect the ruler
§
Each of us is the temple of the holy spirit. When
we respect each other we respect our King whose throne is in the heart of my
brothers and sisters.
o
To be the citizens of his kingdom we should wear
the weapon of love, which conquers all, even our enemies.
§
Example is the crucifixion of Jesus, where the
centurion cried out ‘he is truly son of God’.
-
Let us be the citizens of God’s Kingdom.
o
Being to live in the Kingdom of god here on
earth and enjoy its fullness in heaven.
