3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time - (Mt 4:12-23)

The Call of Jesus and His Confidence in us

Introduction

- Story – When Jesus was about to leave heaven for his mission on earth, one of the main angels asked him – how are you planning to do the saving mission? Who is there for follow up? – advised – take angels with your so that they will do the follow up – Jesus – I have confidence in human being – it was proved right – the fisher men and others did the mission well

- Today Jesus looks at us and says “My dear son/daughter I have confidence in you”.

- We are the people entrusted with the mission of Jesus

Body

- According to the worldly standards qualification precedes confidence

o Eg – if President Noynoy wants to expand his cabinet he looks for qualified and experienced persons. From their qualification he gets confidence in them.

o The companies does the same in “campus recruitments”

- For Jesus Confidence precedes qualification.

o Jesus calls us and qualifies us

o Unlike the above examples, Jesus does not look the qualification, but qualifies them after calling.

o Sends the Holy Spirit to strengthen them. This habit of Jesus continues even today.

o Why Jesus selected me? There were many brilliant students in my class. Many excellent speakers are there around me. But why me? I do not have an answer.

o But one thing is sure. He qualifies the one whom he called.

- In each of the sacraments we receive the calls of Jesus.

o Eg – In baptism a person is called to join in the Kingdom mission of Jesus.

o In Eucharist we are called to break ourselves for others

o In marriage a person is called to be a husband or wife and to build up a family.

o He gives the qualification that is necessary according to the call

- From our part we should be ready;

o To do His will; and (disciples followed him)

o To leave whatever is not good for the call (disciples left everything and followed him).

Conclusion

- Are we ready to His will although our daily life?

- Are we ready to abandon everything is that is not good for the call that is given to us?

- Let us not disappoint Jesus who has confidence in us
